Washington, DC Metro track work information is available to help visitors and riders plan ahead for weekend travel changes. Metro is investing in the reconstruction of its Metrorail system, and track work is expected on most weekends. Weekly updates are provided to inform travelers which lines are affected. This is a weekly press release provided by Metro. Service changes continue through closing on Sunday night.
According to Metro:
“Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of February 17-20 2017 with service adjustments on four of six lines. Trains will operate as follows:
- Orange and Green line trains operate at regular weekend intervals
- SafeTrack Surge 12 begins Saturday, February 11: No Blue Line train service. See below for additional service details
- Yellow Line trains operate every 20 minutes between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square only
- Red Line trains will operate every 15-24 minutes
- Silver Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Largo Town Center
Presidents Day service information
On Presidents Day, Monday, February 20, Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate on a Saturday schedule. Parking at all Metro-owned lots and garages is free on Presidents Day.
Trains every 15-24 minutes | 10:00PM Friday until closing Sunday
On Saturday, trains will operate between Shady Grove & Glenmont every 24 minutes with additional trains between Shady Grove & NoMa-Gallaudet between 9:00AM-9:00PM.
On Sunday, trains will operate regular service.
Single tracking between Rhode Island Avenue & Takoma through closing Saturday to allow for switch maintenance.
Regular weekend service
Trains every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston & Largo Town Center | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Monday
Silver Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Largo Town Center.
Single tracking between Addison Road & Largo Town Center to allow for communication cable installation.
SafeTrack Surge 12 – Line segment shutdown Rosslyn to Pentagon | February 11 through February 28
No Blue Line trains will be in service.
Instead, customers may use the following service options:
- Yellow Line Rush+ between Franconia-Springfield & National Airport every 20 minutes
- Yellow Line between Huntington & Mt. Vernon Square every 20 minutes
- Silver Line between Wiehle-Reston East & Largo Town Center every 20 minutes.
Arlington Cemetery station will be closed. Free shuttle buses will operate between Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery.
Blue Line customers traveling to/from stations north of National Airport should use Yellow and/or Silver line trains to complete their trip.
Trains every 20 minutes between Huntington & Mt. Vernon Square only | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Monday
Yellow Line trains will single track between Pentagon City & L’Enfant Plaza to allow for ceiling tile installation.
All trains will operate to/from Mt. Vernon Square rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Square should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.
