Washington, DC Metro track work information is available to help visitors and riders plan ahead for weekend travel changes. Metro is investing in the reconstruction of its Metrorail system, and track work is expected on most weekends. Weekly updates are provided to inform travelers which lines are affected. This is a weekly press release provided by Metro. Service changes continue through closing on Sunday night.
According to Metro:
“Metro will perform maintenance work over the weekend of May 19-21 to keep trains operating safely and reliably.
- Red Line trains will operate every 8-15 minutes.
- Free shuttle buses replace Orange Line trains between Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton due to SafeTrack Surge 15.
- Blue and Green line trains will operate every 16 minutes.
- Silver Line trains will operate every 16 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Stadium-Armory only.
- Yellow Line trains will operate every 16 minutes between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square only.
Trains every 8-15 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between Friendship Heights and Medical Center to allow for leak mitigation, rail and fastener renewal and track clean up.
Trains will operate between Shady Grove & Glenmont every 15 minutes with additional trains between Farragut North & Silver Spring 9:00 a.m. -9:00 p.m.
SafeTrack Surge 15 | Line segment shut down between Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton
Orange Line trains will operate every 16 minutes between Vienna and Largo Town Center.
New Carrollton, Landover, Cheverly, Deanwood and Minnesota Avenue stations are closed.
SafeTrack Surge 15 | Trains every 16 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Stadium-Armory only
Silver Line trains will operate every 16 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Stadium-Armory only.Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Stadium-Armory, transfer between Silver and Orange/Blue line trains on the same platform.
Trains every 16 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday until closing Sunday
Blue Line trains will operate every 16 minutes to coordinate with rebuilding on other lines.
Trains every 16 minutes between Huntington & Mt. Vernon Sq only | 10:00PM Friday until closing Sunday
To coordinate with rebuilding on other lines, all trains will operate to/from Mt. Vernon Square rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Square should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.
Trains every 16 minutes | 10:00PM Friday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between Georgia Avenue and Fort Totten to allow for rail renewal.

SafeTrack Surge #15 will result in a shutdown on a portion of the Orange Line between New Carrollton and Stadium-Armory stations from May 16 through June 15, 2017.
