“Maestro Christoph Eschenbach conducts the National Symphony Orchestra in a program of classical and contemporary genius, highlighted by Schubert’s Symphony No. 9. Known as the “Great,” the ninth is the last symphony Schubert completed, and it has come to be regarded as one of the most impressive works of the romantic era. The orchestra will perform Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, with special guest soloist Jörg Widmann. Widmann’s own Armonica, a contemporary piece featuring the affecting tones of Christa Schönfeldinger’s glass harmonica, will round out the program.”
